    When we developed the dry season water management strategy for Lake Okeechobee this year, we incorporated crucial flexibility to respond to the potential threat of algal blooms while also remembering the events over the last several years.   • Threatened, Endangered Species team creates win-win situations for military

    The role of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (CERL), Threatened and Endangered Species (TES) program is to identify and understand areas of targeted endangered species management and conservation. Why is this important? The presence of TES on military lands can result in military training restrictions, but effective management and conservation has the potential to substantially deconflict military training and endangered species mandates. In many cases, this presents a win-win scenario where endangered species thrive on installations while military operations maintain flexibility.

  • Life Jacket Loaner Station

    A life jacket is essential gear near or around water and is used for keeping a person afloat.  The Sutton Lake Project received Sea Tow Foundation Life Jackets for the 2020 boating season and built a Life Jacket Loaner Station.  The Sutton Lake Life Jacket Loaner Station was placed at Bee Run beach area to be available to anyone needing a life jacket. 
  • A look back: Clark’s 37 years of service

    Wildlife Biologist and Project Manager Randy Clark retired late last year after serving 37 years of federal service. To celebrate him, we will take a look back at his life and career to recognize him for everything he's done, not just for the Memphis District but also for our nation. Clark first started working for the federal government with the Nashville District in 1978 as a summer hire in the Environmental Analysis Branch. There he worked on Cultural Resources for the Tennessee Tombigbee Waterway.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) - Allatoona Lake Operations Project Management Office announced today that an archery-only deer hunt for youth sportsmen will take place December 5-6 and December 13, 2020 at Victoria Campground.
  • Alert: Homeowners should not pay contractors seeking payment for blue roof

    Louisiana homeowners who receive a notice of payment owed for the installation of federally installed blue roof after Hurricanes Laura and Delta should not pay. FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which manages the Blue Roof Program, have been alerted by some homeowners that they are receiving letters demanding payment for the installation of a blue tarp, used to waterproof hurricane-damaged roofs. The contractor further threatens to place a lien against the owner’s home. Survivors who receive this notice should not pay. The Blue Roof program is free. A subcontractor cannot demand payment or file a lien against a property of a survivor who received a blue tarp.
  • Crooked Creek Lake seeks public input on master plan updates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is seeking public feedback regarding proposed changes to the Crooked Creek Lake Master Plan based on public input collected in November 2019. The master plan update will affect the future management and use of natural resources and recreational activities at the lake for the next 25 years.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Russellville Site Office advises that Riverview Park will be closed to all traffic until further notice beginning Monday Nov. 16.
  • USACE publishes Mississippi River mainline levees Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement

    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) published its Final Supplement II (Final SEIS II) to the 1976 Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), Mississippi River and Tributaries (MR&T) Project, Mississippi River Mainline Levees (MRL), in the Federal Register today, Nov. 13.
  • Contract awarded for Lac qui Parle Dam modernization

    ST. PAUL, Minn. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, awarded a $5.7 million contract to Drax, Inc., out of Madison, Wisconsin, for the modernization of the Lac qui Parle Dam near Watson, Minnesota, yesterday, Nov. 12.
  • AZCON Slip GLRI clean-up complete

    The St. Louis River Area of Concern (AOC) is one step closer to delisting following completion of a contaminated sediment clean-up project at AZCON/Duluth Seaway Port Authority’s Slip November 12. The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA)-funded project removed 850 cubic yards of contaminated sediment and capped an additional 55,000 cubic yards using a cap comprised of clean dredge material from the federal navigation channel and armoring stone to protect it from erosion. “By beneficially reusing the dredged material from the navigation channel, the team was able to achieve remedial objectives, limit waste generation and decrease the environmental impact,” said Amanda Meyer, project manager, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District.
  • Corps hosts Port Everglades Navigation Improvements Project rock treatment methods presentation

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, in partnership with Broward County’s Port Everglades, will conduct a virtual public presentation of its plan for deepening and widening the Port Everglades Harbor on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020, online from 6-8 p.m.
