    Mariners are advised that crews will be making electrical and mechanical rehabilitation to the Van Buren Railroad Bridge (NM 300.8). Work will be performed daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., beginning on 15 December.
  • Gavins Point Dam releases reduced to winter release rate on November 23

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began reducing the Gavins Point releases to the winter release rate on November 23 with the navigation flow support season ending on December 1 at St. Louis, MO. “Releases from Gavins Point Dam were reduced from 35,000 cubic feet per second to 13,000 cfs by mid-December,” said John Remus, chief of the USACE, Missouri River Water Management Division. “We will closely monitor river conditions, and releases will be adjusted to the extent practical to lessen the impacts of river ice formation on stages in the lower river.”

    The quiet waters of the Monongahela River may experience some explosive rumblings next summer. One of the oldest navigation dams in the nation is planned to go out with a blast in Elizabeth, Pennsylvania, after more than a century of service to the region.
  • Upper Mississippi River navigation season closes for the year

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, saw the last tow of the 2023 navigation season as the Motor Vessel Thomas Erickson, departed Lock and Dam 10, near Guttenberg, Iowa, Dec. 3, with 15 barges.
  • Red River - Lindy C. Boggs Lock Set to Reopen Saturday, November 18, 2023

    Vicksburg, Miss. -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District is pleased to announce that the Lindy C. Boggs Lock, will resume locking vessels beginning on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 6:00 a.m. The lock will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

    The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center’s (ERDC) collaborative effort with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Army Geospatial Center (AGC) on a Digital Buoy System has been selected as a 2023 R&D 100 Finalist in the IT/Electrical category.
  • Gavins Point Dam releases to be reduced to winter release rate

    Gavins Point Dam releases will be reduced in late November as flow support to navigation ends. Releases are currently 32,000 cubic feet per second. “We will continue to make releases from Gavins Point Dam to provide flow support at an intermediate service level, 1,500 cfs less than full service, through the end of the navigation flow support season,” said John Remus, chief of the USACE, Missouri River Water Management Division.  “The flow support season will end on Dec. 1 at the mouth of the Missouri River.”

    Dredging operations downstream of the Montgomery Point Lock & Dam (NM 0.5) to the Mississippi River have been completed. Channel depths have been restored and normal locking procedures have commenced.
  • MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 23-70 MPLD Unscheduled Closure

    Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5) will be closed to traffic for 24 hours from 12:00 p.m. on November 1, 2023 to 12:00 p.m. on November 2, 2023. The closure will allow workers to make repairs to the downstream land wall miter gate cylinder.
