  • Ohio River flooding disrupts locking operations at Markland and McAlpine

    Locking operations at Markland Locks and Dam (Ohio River Mile 531.5) have been suspended due to high water. At McAlpine Locks and Dam (Ohio River Mile 606.8), the south (landside) chamber has ceased operations, and the north chamber is expected to close by the evening of Sunday, April 6, 2025. Additional impacts are expected downstream as river levels rise. A full summary of projected impacts at the district’s seven locks and dams on the Ohio River are listed below.

  • Army Corps and contractor begin construction of new dredge

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers joined contractors Eastern Shipbuilding Group and Royal IHC on April 4, 2025, in Panama City, FL for a steel cutting ceremony, kicking off construction of a Medium Class Hopper Dredge (MCHD) to replace the Dredge McFARLAND of the Army Corps’ Philadelphia District. The event was attended by USACE Headquarters, North Atlantic Division, Marine Design Center, and Philadelphia District leadership as well as Royal IHC and Eastern Shipbuilding Group leadership.

  • MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 25-23 Caution Advisory - HWY 64 Bridge NM 300.4 Update

    The hydrodemolition project over the navigation channel of the HWY 64 Bridge, as noted in Navigation Notice SWL 25-22, has been postponed due to weather. The project is now scheduled to occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 5, 2025.

    Mariners are advised that a hydrodemolition project is scheduled over the navigation span of the HWY 64 Bridge, NM 300.4, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on April 3, 2025. During this time mariners should contact the onsite workboat at VHF Channel 16 or 68, or by phone at (479) 629-2996 prior to arrival to coordinate a work stoppage to allow for safe passage under the bridge.

  • Corps of Engineers begins Grays Harbor maintenance dredging April 8

    USACE's hopper dredge vessels, Yaquina and Essayons, begin Grays Harbor outer harbor maintenance dredging April 8. The maintenance navigation dredging is required in the harbor area, whose deep draft channel is 350 feet wide increasing to 1,000 feet over the bar, to support Washington State's economy that relies on navigation and commerce.
