    The Pittsburgh District had an unprecedented fiscal year in 2023, and we accomplished a tremendous amount of work for the region and the nation, thanks to our employees.
  • MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 23-64 UPDATE: WREC Channel Restriction and Delays

    Crews arrived in the area on Sunday, October 15, 2023, to begin clamming in the downstream approach at Montgomery Point Lock & Dam (NM 0.5). A Notice to Proceed has been given to the Contract Dredge Sandpiper who is expected to arrive in the area and begin dredging on or before Saturday, October 21, 2023. The Dredge Sandpiper is expected to complete dredging operations below Montgomery Point Lock & Dam on or around Saturday, October 28, 2023.

    (TAMPA, Fla.) - It’s already hot and humid on Saturday, and it’s only eight a.m. in Tampa, Florida. Channelside Drive is bumper-to-bumper traffic. Even though the temperature hasn’t changed much in the eight years since I lived there, the area has changed dramatically.
  • Nashville District showcases projects to Army’s assistant secretary for Civil Works

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 16, 2023) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District showcased two of its mega construction projects on the Tennessee River and its hydropower rehabilitation efforts at Barkley Dam on the Cumberland River last week to the assistant secretary of the Army for Civil Works.
  • USACE awards construction contract for Kissimmee River Restoration Navigational Warning Signage

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District, awarded a construction contract for Kissimmee River Restoration (KRR) Project Navigational Warning Signage, located in Okeechobee and Highlands Counties, Florida. The non-Federal sponsor for the Kissimmee River Restoration Project is the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). USACE awarded the contract for $2,645,604.74 to Eagle Engineering & Land Development, Inc., Naples, Florida, on September 28, 2023.

    Mariners are advised that extremely low Mississippi River levels have caused depth issues to exist between Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5) and the Mississippi River.
  • MKARNS Nav Notice No. 23-62 - TOW HAULAGE OUT OF SERVICE DAVID D. TERRY LOCK (No. 6) NM 108.1

    The tow haulage equipment at David D. Terry Lock (No. 6) NM 108.1 is currently out of service. Double cut tows will have to be locked the conventional way (without the use of tow haulage). Another notice will be distributed when the tow haulage equipment is back in service.
  • Corps of Engineers is lowering the Mississippi River level in Minneapolis for maintenance at Lock and Dam 1

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, are lowering the Mississippi River water elevations between Lower St. Anthony Falls and Lock and Dam 1, both in Minneapolis, starting Oct. 13.
  • Communities celebrate Cordell Hull Dam’s 50th Anniversary

    ELMWOOD, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2023) – Local communities, residents and officials celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Cordell Hull Dam Oct. 7 by paying tribute to residents that were displaced, featuring historical aspects of the dam’s construction, and noting the benefits that were realized for future generations when the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers impounded the lake.
  • MKARNS Nav Notice No. SWL 23-61 Lock 10 Intermittent Delays

    Mariners should expect to experience intermittent delays at Dardanelle Lock (No. 10) NM 205.5 between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m on October 19, 2023. The intermittent delays are required to facilitate underwater dive operations in the Lock chamber.
