    State of the USACE Environmental Program

    WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Over the course of the past five years, I've had the privilege of championing our environmental mission alongside the highly-skilled and capable workforce within the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). As I transition from serving as the Environmental Programs Chief at Headquarters to the Regional Programs Manager at North Atlantic Division, I would be remiss if I did not take this opportunity to give a shout-out to our USACE-wide environmental team and the value-added results they continue to deliver.

    Public comment period extended for draft tiered EA on the Hess Hawkeye Pipeline system maintenance project at Lake Sakakawea, North Dakota

    The public comment period for the draft environmental assessment (EA) to perform maintenance activities on the existing Hawkeye Pipeline System within Federal lands (Lake Sakakawea) in McKenzie and Williams counties in North Dakota has been extended to May 12, 2019. This EA tiers from one completed in 2015 by the Bureau of Land Management which evaluated the environmental effects of repurposing the existing pipelines within Lake Sakakawea.

    Second drawdown of Cunningham Reservoir planned due to high runoff, fish renovation planned for June

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will drawdown Glenn Cunningham Reservoir a second time as the high runoff event in March 2019 caused the reservoir to refill, delaying progress in the efforts to control the invasive zebra mussels and overabundant common carp.

    The Transatlantic Division’s Task Force Essayons (TFE) conducted a change of command for its Headquarters Detachment on April 6, 2019, at Camp Taji, Iraq. TFE Commander Col. Jim Riely presided over the ceremony where Capt. Joe Marut relinquished command to Capt. Andrea Taylor.

    Norfolk District contract award delivers boost to Lynnhaven Inlet navigation

    Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded a 120-day period of performance contract to Cottrell Contracting Corp. for the Lynnhaven Inlet Federal Navigation Project. The project serves commercial and recreational users in the city of Virginia Beach, the nonfederal sponsor, providing value to the both the economy and leisure opportunities.
