Building Climate Resilience

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has focused for a number of years on understanding climate change and its impacts on our missions and operations, as well as on how to increase our Nation’s resilience to extreme weather events.  We have supported climate change analyses since the 1950s when we began ice core drilling through our recent completion of the North Atlantic Coast Comprehensive Study for the White House in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.  We are focusing our efforts on four phases of resilience – planning for the impact of an event; absorbing it; recovering from it; and then adapting to be better prepared for the future.  When we plan, absorb, respond and adapt, we come out stronger.  The United States Army Corps of Engineers is addressing climate change and building resilience in our infrastructure to better serve and support our citizens, our communities and our Nation.  We are Building Climate Resilience.
