    FORT SHAFTER, HI — Lt. Col. Thomas D. Asbery (back right) receives the unit colors from Pacific Ocean Division Commander Brig. Gen. Richard L. Stevens hosted the ceremony at Historic Palm Circle Parade Field at Fort Shafter, Hawaii. For his outstanding work and contributions to the Honolulu District, Guttormsen received the Meritorious Service Medal. Guttormsen leaves to become the Division Engineer for the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Asbery most recently served as the Executive Officer to the Commanding General, Human Resources Command, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Asbery deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He also deployed to the Mississippi Coast in support of Hurricane Katrina disaster relief efforts in 2005 as a Forward Engineer Support Team leader.

    Corps of Engineers' Bartram Trail named National Recreation Trail

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District's Bartram Trail, located at J. Strom Thurmond Dam and Lake, was recently designated by the Department of Interior as a national recreation trail.

  • GALVESTON, Texas — Rashid Sheikh-ali is one of many employees in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District who make up the organization's diverse team representing nearly a dozen countries of origin spanning from Canada to China.

    Full of hope and aspirations for a better life, Rashid Sheikh-ali, a native of Mogadishu, Somalia, set out on a life-changing journey in 1980 that would take him from Africa to America -- where he would become a structural engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District.
  • BUCHAREST, Romania — Col. Winfield Keller (left), Global Deployments project manager, and Col. D.     Industrious dialogue in Romania

    Representatives from the U.S. European Command, Missile Defense Agency, the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District came together to host two industry days in Bucharest and Caracal, Romania, to discuss information supporting contracts for the Aegis Ashore program June 13 - 14, 2012.

    USACE achieves major construction milestone at Tamiami Trail

    The U.S Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District reached a major milestone for the Tamiami Trail Modifications project was reached shortly after midnight July 13, 2012 as the first concrete pour on the bridge deck was completed.
  • Dresden Lock and Dam on the Illinois River near Morris, Ill., is one of 239 lock chambers at 193 sites nationally operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that provides half-hourly lock and daily vessel specific information through a new Lock Performance Monitoring System that is Web-based and available to the public at http://corpslocks.usace.army.mil/.

    USACE launches new navigation website

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announces the launch of a new website that will provide the public and industry with real-time data on U.S. flag and foreign vessels transiting USACE-owned and operated lock structures nationally.
  • Spc. Timothy Steely, a current Operation Warfighter intern, speaks with Charles Case from the Defense Criminal Investigation Service, one of the agencies represented at the meeting. Operation Warfighter is a federal internship program that places Wounded Warriors in positions at federal agencies while they are completing their medical board process. The Tulsa District has had multiple Operation Warfighter interns at the agency.

    Several federal agencies met at Keystone State Park to discuss Operation Warfighter, a Department of Defense federal internship program that places Wounded Warriors in positions at federal agencies while they are completing their medical board process.

    USACE officials serve up Asian carp sliders and information on invasive species

    Catching quite a bit of media attention at the 32nd annual Taste of Chicago in Grant Park July 11 was the booth offering more than 800 Asian carp sliders free of charge.
