Banner year for Formerly Used Defense Sites Program

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- It has been a banner year for the Formerly Used Defense Sites (FUDS) program. The program, which restores environmental conditions at sites formerly used by the Department of Defense to build and defend our Nation, successfully obligated 100 percent of its authorized $243.1 million budget and met all major milestones for fiscal year 2017, advancing cleanup efforts across the country.

Project partnership agreements finalized for two Everglades projects

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has finalized two critical agreements for ecosystem restoration projects in the Florida Everglades. The project partnership agreements (PPAs) cover the Broward County Water Preserve Areas and Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands projects, two Everglades restoration projects that were authorized in the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014.

Corps of Engineers, partners, report on progress restoring America’s Everglades

Significant progress has been made in restoring America’s Everglades over the past five years and a comprehensive report highlighting these efforts has recently been submitted to Congress. The 2015 Report to Congress for the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) was jointly submitted to Congress last week by the secretaries of the Army and the Interior. The report details the collaborative effort of participating agencies and their combined commitment to restore America’s Everglades.

Record of Decision signed for Central Everglades Planning Project

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jo-Ellen Darcy signed the Record of Decision for the Central Everglades Planning Project on Aug. 31, 2015, signifying the completion of the final administrative review for the ecosystem restoration project’s report.

Environmental reports for G-3273 & S-356 Pump Station Field Test available

The Environmental Assessment (EA) and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the first increment of the G-3273 and S-356 Pump Station Field Test are now available online. The first increment of the G-3273 and S-356 pump station field test will evaluate the raising or removing of the G-3273 constraint of 6.8 feet and holding the L-29 Canal stage at 7.5 feet to enable increased water deliveries to Everglades National Park. This is the first step in the incremental approach to develop the final operating plan for the Modified Water Deliveries to Everglades National Park and C-111 South Dade projects.

Draft supplemental report for Decomp Physical Model available for 30-day public and agency review

The Draft Supplemental Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the Decomp Physical Model (DPM) is now available for public and agency review. Comments will be accepted through June 18, 2015. The Decomp Physical Model is a field-scale test that is being conducted along a 3,000-foot stretch of the L-67A and L-67C levees and canals in Water Conservation Area (WCA) 3A and 3B to determine how best to design and formulate plans for future decompartmentalization of WCA-3, as envisioned in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP).

Comprehensive study on Aquifer Storage & Recovery capabilities scheduled to be finalized by summer

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District is in the process of finalizing a comprehensive study on research related to the use of Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR), an Everglades restoration component proposed as part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) to recharge, store and recover water underground for ecological restoration uses.
