• Huntington District Regulatory Division lends a helping hand to Jacksonville District

    Project managers Cecil Cox and Kayla Adkins recently volunteered to assist the Fort Myers regulatory field office with a few extra sets of hands for disaster recovery. The Jacksonville District manages the largest regulatory program in the Corps, with jurisdiction over the geographic area of Florida, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This includes freshwater habitats as well as saltwater habitats that provide homes to the West Indian manatee, Florida panther, wood stork, and multiple other fish/snake/bird species.
  • Corps to reduce flows from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District plans to reduce the amount of water flowing from Lake Okeechobee for the first time since releases were initiated following Hurricane Irma. Starting Friday (Nov. 17), the target flow for the Caloosahatchee Estuary will be set to 6,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at Moore Haven Lock & Dam (S-77). The target flow for the St. Lucie Estuary will be reduced to 2,800 cfs as measured at St. Lucie Lock & Dam (S-80) near Stuart.
  • Shoreline Management Plan finalized for Pomme de Terre Lake

    HERMITAGE, Mo.— The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District has finalized the Pomme de Terre Lake Shoreline Management Plan. "With input from local residents, we were able to hear their concerns and sought ways to incorporate their thoughts into our management plan," said Brian Wright, operations project manager for Pomme de Terre Lake. "In doing this, we strive to strike a balance between public and private shoreline use."
  • USACE completes construction on NASA test stands to help send rocket on Mars journey

    Work is finishing on two rocket test stands, built for NASA by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, which will someday help send astronauts to Mars. The stands, located at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., will test rocket propellant tanks for NASA’s Space Launch System rocket.

  • Arkabutla Lake Hosting its 27th Annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt

    VICKSBURG, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Arkabutla Lake is hosting its 27th annual Physically Challenged Deer Hunt December 7-8, 2017, and December 9-10, 2017. These two-day hunts are the largest hunts of this type in the U.S. which applies to hunters who are quadriplegic, paraplegic, or ambulatory with the use of leg braces or crutches.
