• Public meeting set regarding Marysville Ring Levee 2019 construction

    A public meeting regarding refined construction plans for Phases 2A South and 2C for the Marysville Ring Levee project will be held Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. in the Yuba County Government Center, located at 915 8th Street in Marysville.

    The Lewis and Clark Visitor Center near Yankton, SD, will be reopening effective Tuesday, February 20, 2018. Hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a. m. to 4:00 P.M. The center is located on Nebraska Highway 121 near the Gavins Point Dam.
  • Generator upgrades will cause spillway flows at Gavins Point Dam

    Upgrades to the hydropower generators at Gavins Point Powerplant near Yankton, SD will result in water flows through the spillway gates. Flows are expected from February 26 through May 15, 2018. Boating restrictions will be in place on the river below the dam during this time.
  • Middle East District promotes STEM ahead of National Engineers Week

    During the month of February, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Middle East DISTRICT (TAM) supported three Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) events in the city of Winchester, Va., continuing a strong tradition of STEM outreach to the local community. Although the District supports events throughout the year, February is particularly important in promoting STEM because the third week in February is National Engineers Week. The three February events include MATHCOUNTS, a nationally recognized middle school math completion, a school science fair and a speaking engagement at STARBASE, a Department of Defense sponsored program aimed at promoting STEM at the elementary school level.

    COLUMBIA & SNAKE RIVERS, Ore. & Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct routine annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs at all navigation locks on the Columbia and Snake rivers during March.

  • Drought operations, recent rainfall help Lake Lanier reach full winter pool for first time since 2016

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District announced today that Lake Sidney Lanier in Northern Georgia reached full winter pool for the first time since May 2016. Under the Army Corps of Engineers’ Water Control Manuals for the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) River Basin, a full winter pool for the lake is achieved when water levels reach 1070’.

    Communication is key, and the Kansas City District understands that concept and strives to implement it. “We have more stakeholders than we know,” said John Grothaus, Kansas City District’s chief of planning. “We are actively searching for them, working to communicate with them to learn their needs while informing what the Corps of Engineers does and how we can best serve the public.”
