• Mobile District park rangers thankful they were at right place, right time to assist stranded motorists

    Randy Flint and Mark Jackson, park rangers at Mobile District’s Allatoona Lake, are spending this Thanksgiving here working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ debris removal mission. While they will miss their families at this time of year, they say they are thankful to be here.
  • USACE awards two new contracts for Operation Blue Roof

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in coordination with the Mobile District, awarded a $93-million shared capacity contract to Power & Instrumentation Services Inc. and Ceres Caribe Inc., Nov. 21, 2017, for additional support for temporary roofing mission more commonly known as “Operation Blue Roof.”
  • Corps water managers take flood control management of three dams

    SEATTLE – U.S. Army Corps of Engineers water managers from the Seattle District’s Reservoir Control Center are regulating flows for Wynoochee, Ross and Upper Baker Dams. The engineers began regulating the flows for the Western Washington dams November 21 at Wynoochee and November 22 at Upper Baker and Ross. Corps operation of these utility-owned projects occurs during flood events per established protocols.
  • FEMA, local businesses partner for Hurricane Maria recovery

    After Hurricane Maria devastated vast portions of Puerto Rico, businesses and industry in local communities began coordinating with the government of Puerto Rico, FEMA and other federal agencies to fast-track efforts to revitalize and stimulate commerce on the island. The FEMA-Puerto Rico Business Emergency Operations Center is a critical cog in that effort.
  • Ongoing improvements for fish passage at Foster Dam to close road

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the road on top of Foster Dam, Sweet Home, Oregon, to remove a large crane, Dec. 4-29. During this time, Foster Dam Road will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. For a time, the Corps used the crane and elevator system, which was innovative for its time, for adult fish collection and passage over Foster Dam; however, the equipment wasn’t fully successful in moving fish above the dam in an efficient manner. Corps biologists concluded there were better options.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, responded to 22 actions resulting from Hurricane Maria, including heavy rain damage in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

    In the mountains of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting one of its last building assessments on critical infrastructure on the island. For more than five weeks, teams have worked tirelessly to document damage done by hurricanes Irma and Maria to more than one-thousand buildings, whether in urban centers or remote mountain villages.
  • 17-119 Walla Walla District employees deploy to support FEMA’s hurricane-response missions

    WALLA WALLA, Wash. – During the span of about three months, dozens of employee-volunteers from throughout the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District deployed in response to Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) requests for support to hurricane-recovery efforts in Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, Saint Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Saint Croix, according to District emergency management officials.
