Site Sustainability

Broadly, “sustainability” is the capacity to endure; i.e. the ability to sustain. When applied to a community infrastructure project, it refers to the ability to sustain not just itself, but its users, its community, and the ecology of its environment. On this page you will find resources to related enhancing a community’s sustainability by reducing the energy and resources its infrastructure consumes during its useful life cycle; construction through operation and demolition/replacement. Also, to minimize the long term adverse effects on the local ecology resulting from its use, and other ways to ensure the infrastructure is able to provide a healthful and productive environment in which to live, work, or play.
