Comment period extended for input on USACE regulations

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers extends comment period to October 18, 2017, for input on its existing regulations. Presidential Executive Order 13777, “Enforcing the Regulatory Reform Agenda,” requires federal agencies to review all existing regulations; identify those that meet specific review criteria; and make recommendations regarding leaving regulations as they are, or recommending their repeal, replacement, or modification. A July 20, 2017, Federal Register Notice explains which regulations and how to comment.

Recently published handbook on coral reef impacts

A team of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' regulators and planners worked for several years with the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force Injury and Mitigation Working Group in the development of a new recently published handbook entitled "Handbook on Coral Reef Impacts: Avoidance, Minimization, Compensatory Mitigation, and Restoration", dated December 2016.

Army Corps of Engineers seeks public comments on proposal to renew and revise nationwide permits

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today it is seeking comments on its proposal to renew and revise 50 nationwide permits for work in wetlands and other waters that are regulated by Section 404 of the Clean Water Act and/or Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899. In addition, USACE is proposing to issue two new nationwide permits that pertain to authorizing the removal of low-head dams and the construction and maintenance of living shorelines.

Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas on Veterans Day

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families at the more than 2,200 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide on Veterans Day, November 11.

Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 28. On this day, fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches will be waived.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ trails designated as National Recreation Trails

WASHINGTON –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced recently that five of its recreation trails have been designated national recreation trails by the U.S. Department of the Interior. The five are among 28 trails nationwide designated this year as new national recreation trails, and will join the national network of more than 1,200 previously designated trails that encompass more than 14,000 miles of existing trails and trail systems.
