  • Corps opens public comment on Okeechobee Waterway maintenance dredging from Crossroads to St. Lucie Lock and Dam

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District opens public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the operation and maintenance dredging of the Okeechobee Waterway (OWW) from the intersection of the OWW and the Intracoastal Waterway (IWW), locally known as the Crossroads, to the St. Lucie Lock and Dam in Martin County, Florida. Public comment will be accepted through July 15, 2020.

  • Corps announces gradual reopening of camping and recreation areas closed due to COVID-19

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the gradual reopening, starting June 1, of some Corps-managed recreation areas along the Okeechobee Waterway that were closed to protect against the further spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). “The health and safety of our employees, volunteers, and visitors is our top priority. Our rangers have been hard at work, planning for the gradual reopening of our recreation facilities and implementing increased protection measures and signage to ensure everyone can enjoy our recreation areas safely and responsibly,” said Jeff Fallin, Chief of the South Florida Operations Office in Clewiston. “We know that everyone is looking forward to getting outside and returning to their favorite recreation areas, and appreciate the public’s patience and understanding during this unprecedented time.”

  • Corps opens public comment on construction of a Dredged Material Management Area in Martin County

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District opens public comment on the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for construction of a dredged material management area (DMMA) at Site O-23 located in Martin County, Florida. Public comment will be accepted through June 18, 2020.

  • Corps campgrounds to shut down due to COVID-19

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces that there will be an orderly shutdown of the Corps Campgrounds on the Okeechobee Waterway next week, including the Ortona South, St. Lucie South and W.P. Franklin North Campgrounds.

  • Corps’ dredge Murden to emergency dredge shoaling in Martin County

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ dredge Murden arrived in Martin County Aug. 1 to dredge a problematic shoal creating a safety concern within the Crossroads reach of the Intracoastal Waterway (IWW). The Corps requests recreationists slow down and use caution in this construction area. The Crossroads reach is where three federal channels come together -- the IWW, the Okeechobee Waterway and the St. Lucie Inlet.

  • Army Corps Announces Administrative Fee Changes

    Beginning January 1, 2020, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Division, will implement a revised administrative fee schedule resulting in a total cost of $835 for a dock and land based facilities at its reservoirs and along certain federal waterways in the Southeastern United States.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District released the Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) and Proposed Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for updating the 1986 Okeechobee Waterway (OWW) and Lake Okeechobee (LO) Master Plan. A public workshop is scheduled in LaBelle and public comment will be accepted through September 21, 2018.
