  • Motorboat Operator training provides certification and skills needed to perform a wide range of duties

    In May and June, the South Florida Operations Office hosted a 32-hour motorboat licensing course and two 8-hour refresher courses at the W.P. Franklin Lock Recreation Area on the Okeechobee Waterway. Thirteen Jacksonville District employees participated in the program, designed to ensure that operators are adequately trained, properly tested and licensed prior to the official operation of any Corps boat or vessel less than 26 feet in length.

  • Okeechobee Waterway traffic restricted at Ortona Lock

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District has announced restrictions on boat traffic at the Ortona Lock on the Okeechobee Waterway while a malfunctioning gate is repaired over the next three weeks.

  • St. Lucie Canal between Stuart and Palm City to partially close for construction

    There is a scheduled closure of St. Lucie Canal South Fork at the Indian Street Bridge construction zone between Stuart and Palm City in Martin County, Fla. There will be a daily waterway closure from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Feb. 18 through March 4, 2013.
