  • Beach Blast at Rend Lake, June 13

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is hosting the annual Rend Lake Beach Blast Saturday, June 13, at the South Sandusky Beach. Rend Lake Park Rangers will host this fun-filled event that includes games for all ages, music, and learning how to be safe while in and around the water. This popular event will kick off at noon and will run until 4:00 p.m.
  • Corps suspends swimming activities at Franklin Recreation Area

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has temporarily suspended swimming and other water activities at the W.P. Franklin South Recreation Area located near Fort Myers. The Corps was notified this afternoon by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) that an algal bloom upstream of the beach had tested positive for microcystin, a substance produced by freshwater cyanobacteria. Tests of water in the immediate vicinity of the beach were negative. However, the Corps has decided to suspend water activities at the beach until further notice.
  • Norfolk beach expansion combats sea-level rise

    Mayor Paul Fraim and other city of Norfolk leaders joined Col. Paul Olsen, Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers commander, along Ocean View Beach to sign a historic project partnership agreement that lays the foundation for construction of a coastal storm damage reduction project.
  • Corps invites comment on Lido Key Beach sand source draft environmental assessment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the availability of the draft Finding of No Significant Impact and Draft Environmental Assessment of additional sand sources for the Lido Key Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project in Sarasota County. The Corps’ preferred alternative includes the use of material from the Big Sarasota Pass ebb shoal for placement on 2.4 miles of Lido Beach shoreline.

    Lake Shelbyville – Aquafest at Dam West Beach is no ordinary day at the beach! The Lake Shelbyville, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting Aquafest for Saturday, August 2 from noon to 4:00 p.m. Children and adults of ages all are welcome to attend.

    Jacksonville, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District invites the public to review and comment on the Flagler County, Fla., Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project Draft Integrated Feasibility Study and Environmental Assessment. The open comment period starts tomorrow, Jan. 17, and ends Feb. 17.
  • Broward County Beach Erosion Control update

    Jacksonville, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces passing the halfway mark on Broward County Beach Erosion Control Project construction. Approximately 80,000 cubic-yards of beach quality sand now lies on 3.5 miles of shoreline between the Hillsboro Inlet and Washingtonia Avenue.
