• Corps seeks public comments on Big Sand Lake shoreline stabilization

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is seeking public comments on its draft environmental assessment for the proposed Big Sand Lake shoreline stabilization project in Burnett County, Wisconsin, within the St. Croix Chippewa Reservation.

    The Student Conservation Association, or SCA, known as America’s conservation corps, is on a mission to create a unified nationwide data set of Corps of Engineers assets across the country. As part of that effort, the SCA began data collection at Nolin River Lake in Bee Spring, Kentucky Oct. 19, 2021. The purpose of their visit is part of a three-year Geographic Information Systems assessment of transportation, facility, and recreation facilities across the country to create a nationwide data set of the road, parking, and recreation assets that the Corps of Engineers manages. There are many applications for the data according to SCA Program Manager Jamie Weleber.

  • USACE Vicksburg District Thatcher Lock and Dam public notice

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District Thatcher Lock and Dam (L&D) pool elevation has fallen below normal pool level and is continuing to fall, due to a leak in the seal of the hinge crest gate. This is of no danger to the integrity of the structure but will cause Thatcher’s pool to continue to fall until the pool reaches elevation 71 ft, which is the bottom elevation of the gate. Thatcher’s pool is currently at an elevation of 75.8 ft and is falling between 0.25 ft and 0.35 ft each day. If this rate continues, Thatcher’s pool will fall as low as 72.5 ft by the end of October and reach 71 ft near the first weekend in November.
