• Army awards final technology for renewable and alternative energy MATOC

    Sept. 23, a group of qualified biomass technology contractors was identified and awarded 13 Multiple Award Task Order Contracts (MATOC) by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Engineering and Support Center, Huntsville, working with the Army Energy Initiatives Task Force (EITF). The biomass awards complete the first round for each of the four technologies under a $7 billion MATOC for renewable and alternative energy power production for Department of Defense installations which also includes geothermal, solar and wind companies.

    Vicksburg, Miss…Residents of area nursing homes and the local Human Development Center at Arkadelphia, will have the unique opportunity to enjoy an outdoor fishing opportunity. Media outlets are invited to attend. Personnel at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers DeGray Lake Field Office will host a fishing derby for physically challenged persons on 25 September 2013, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Lake View Recreation Area at DeGray Lake. The participants will fish in groups from morning until around noon. In the past, as many as 100 persons participated in this event.
  • Cadet District Engineer Program Offers A Hands-On USACE Experience

    Editor’s Note: The Honolulu District hosted two U.S. Army cadets this summer as part of the Cadet District Engineer Program (CDEP). This program allows ROTC and U.S. Military Academy cadets the opportunity to gain first-hand construction and engineering experience with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Cadets are typically assigned for a month of training at USACE Districts to assist with work on civil, mechanical, electrical, or environmental engineering projects. The program provides them exposure to the USACE mission and educates them about future career opportunities. In their own words, here is what these cadets experienced:

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Sept. 28. Albuquerque District will host five NPLD events this year at Abiquiu, Conchas, Cochiti and Santa Rosa lakes in New Mexico and John Martin Reservoir in Southeastern Colorado.
