• Army Corps awards $18.3 million contract for emergency beach replenishment: Asbury Park to Avon-by-the-Sea

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District awarded an $18.3 million contract to Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company of Oak Brook, Illinois, to place approximately 1.2 million cubic yards of sand to restore New Jersey beaches from Asbury Park to Avon-by-the-Sea as part of an emergency shore protection project which repairs and restores previously constructed beach erosion control projects throughout the region affected by Hurricane Sandy.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are improving the main shipping channels in the Port by deepening them to a depth of 50 feet, allowing more efficient access to the world’s largest oceangoing ships.

  • Cherry Creek Reservoir releases scheduled to gradually increase

    As river stages downstream of Denver continue to recede, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District will begin to gradually increase releases from Cherry Creek Dam. Releases from Cherry Creek Dam will be gradually increased over the next few days to evacuate flood control storage. On Thursday, Sept. 26, Cherry Creek Dam releases were increased from 40 cubic feet per second to 75 cfs. The releases are scheduled to be increased to 100 cfs on Monday, Sept. 30.

  • Contract awarded for Burns Approach Channel dredging and disposal

    The district awarded a contract for $867,500, Sept. 25, 2013, to Luedtke Engineering Company LLC. for mechanical dredging and disposal of 75,000 cubic yards at Burns Approach Channel in Portage, Ind. The dredged material will be placed in water along Ogden Dunes. Work is expected to begin spring 2014. Severe shoaling occurred at this channel as a resultant of Hurricane Sandy.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District’s south Puerto Rico resident engineer, Pablo Vázquez-Ruiz, was recently elected president of the Ponce Chapter of the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico (CIAPR in Spanish acronym) as well as treasurer of the College of Engineers and Surveyors of Puerto Rico.
