    The soaring marble columns at One Commerce Square provided an inspiring venue for Memphis District’s change of command July 12. Col. Vernie L. Reichling Jr. turned over leadership of the district to Col. Jeffery A. Anderson at the event attended by employees, retirees, family members, partners, stakeholders and others. Deputy District Commander Lt. Col. Dave Patton acted as the master of ceremonies.
  • Chittenden Locks in Ballard schedules October-November closings

    The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks in Ballard will close to much or all marine traffic at various times Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, and the large lock is scheduled to close to all marine traffic from 9 a.m., Nov. 5, to 5 p.m., Nov. 20, for annual maintenance.

    A draft environmental assessment for the control of saltcedar and Russian olive at the Fort Peck Reservoir, Mont. is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of controlling the spread of these noxious weeds through aerial application of aquatically-approved herbicides for large infestations and the use of foliar, cut-stump and basal bark application methods for small areas of infestation.

    Vicksburg, Miss… The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will waive day use fees for veterans, active and reserve component service members and their families at the more than 2,400 USACE-operated recreational areas nationwide on Veterans Day, 11 November 2013. This includes all recreational areas in the Vicksburg District.

    GALVESTON, Texas (Oct. 23, 2013) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard to provide maintenance dredging, construction oversight, environmental coordination and hydrographic surveying services for nine USCG stations located along the Texas coast, increasing navigation safety while saving taxpayers thousands of dollars annually.
