• Corps of Engineers releases Lock and Dam 10 statistics

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, released the 2015 navigation statistics for the Upper Mississippi River today, Jan. 11.

    VICKSBURG, MISS., January 11, 2016 – Based on current Mississippi River forecasts by the National Weather Service and hydraulic modeling, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers does not anticipate operating the Morganza Control Structure during this high-water event.
  • Corps of Engineers wages Phase II floodfight efforts in eastern Arkansas and northwestern Mississippi

    MEMPHIS, Tenn., Jan. 9, 2016 – The Memphis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is currently in a Phase II floodfight due to high river stages on the Mississippi River. The area of current or possible flooding is located in the Helena, Ark., and Clarksdale, Miss., Areas on the Lower Mississippi River. Communities that may be affected include Tunica, Friars Point, Rosedale and other communities near the river in Mississippi, and Helena/West Helena, Melwood, and other riverside communities in Arkansas.

    MKARNS - Joe Hardin Lock (No. 3) NM 50.2 has reopened to Navigation traffic. The lock was closed due to high flows on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. The flows have now dropped to safe levels to operate the lock.

    MKARNS - Colonel Charles D. Maynard Lock (No. 5) and David D. Terry Lock and Dam (No. 6) have reopened to Navigation traffic.
  • MKARNS Nav Notice SWL 16-06 Lock 9 - Reopened

    MKARNS - Arthur V. Ormond Lock (No. 9) NM 176.9 has reopened to Navigation traffic. The lock was closed due to high flows on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. The flows have now dropped to safe levels to operate the lock.
  • Corps announces interim risk reduction measures on LA River

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District Commander Col. Kirk Gibbs joined Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis Jan. 8 to announce that the Corps will begin interim risk reduction measures to improve flood protection on the Los Angeles River during El Niño. The District received emergency funding to begin work next week on an area of the river that spans from Griffith Park to Elysian Valley.

  • Cherry Creek Dam water control plan modification study public meeting scheduled

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, January 26, from 6-8 p.m. to gather input on modifying the Cherry Creek Dam Water Control Plan to release more water from the dam during extreme flooding events in order to reduce the risk of the dam overtopping and failing. Comments must be postmarked or received by February 26, 2016.
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces changes in recreation day use fees and Special Use Permit Fees

    MOBILE, Ala. - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District announced on January 1, 2016, the recreation day use fees charged for boat launches and swimming beaches managed by USACE will change to a simpler fee structure. The fee for the USACE annual pass to these facilities will also change. Some locations may also see a change in camping fees and the fee for a Special Use Permit, which covers events, facilities and activities.
