    MKRNS - Toad Suck Ferry Lock (No. 8) NM 155.9 has reopened to Navigation traffic. The lock was closed due to high flows on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System. The flows have now dropped to safe levels to operate the lock.

That also describes how the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers conducts a feasibility study for prospective projects, though we’d work hard to avoid harming an actual elephant.

    The Veterans Curation Program provides five months of paid, intensive archaeological curation training to recently-separated Veterans, using collections from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Veterans are not only helping the Corps rehabilitate vast archaeological collections to museum standards to aid in future research but are also learning important career-building skills. The VCP laboratory in Alexandria held an open house Jan. 12, 2016, so the 12 employed Veterans could demonstrate their work in archiving and artifacts and discuss how the program is helping them to prepare for the future.

  • Corps to host government contracts meeting at Wichita State

    TULSA — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tulsa District will host an informational meeting at Wichita State University to discuss upcoming Project Consolidated Maintenance Contract opportunities at Marion KS and other locations in Kansas, Feb. 3, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. The Tulsa District’s Kansas Area Office and Small Business Directorate, in a joint effort with the Kansas Procurement Technical Assistance Center, will hold the meeting to educate contractors and small businesses about government contract opportunities in Kansas. These service contracts typically include; mowing of public use areas, dam embankments, project office complexes, and other unimproved areas on project lands. Additional opportunities include janitorial work, cleaning of park facilities such as toilets, picnic and camping sites, grounds keeping, refuse collection and disposal, pumping of septic tanks and vaults; herbicide application.
