    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District will temporarily close Louisiana Avenue for work related to the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project (SELA).
  • Corps to maintain current flows from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville district has decided to continue releases of water from Lake Okeechobee at the same target flows for at least another week. The Corps will begin a seven-day pulse release from the lake starting Friday (Jan. 8). The target flow to the Caloosahatchee during this period is unchanged at an average of 1,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) as measured at W.P. Franklin Lock & Dam (S-79) near Fort Myers.
  • USACE updates its Shoreline Use Rules

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District announced today shoreline management changes. This change impacts property owners on USACE projects throughout the Southeast. It brings shoreline management regulations into compliance with federal law. The laws directing the construction of the dams and reservoirs – laws dating to the 1940s – never authorized irrigation, in any amount, as a project purpose.
  • Flood Risk Management on the ACF and ACT Basins Capture 1200 billion gallons of Flood Waters

    MOBILE, Ala. –The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Mobile District implemented flood control operations in the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint (ACF) and Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa (ACT) River Basins. Portions of Alabama, Florida and Georgia had received up to 15 inches of rain over 14 days causing the rivers within the basins to rise rapidly.

    SLUPSK, Poland – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers anticipates breaking ground on another Aegis Ashore complex by next summer as attention turns toward Phase III of the European Phased Adaptive Approach to ballistic missile defense at Redzikowo Air Base.
  • US, Romania complete construction on missile defense complex

    U.S. and Romanian officials inaugurated the new Aegis Ashore Phase II radar site and missile battery Dec. 18 during a ceremony in Bucharest, declaring it “technically capable.” U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Europe District has worked closely with the Missile Defense Agency, U.S. Navy and Romanian officials to finish the $170 million missile defense complex and meet a presidential mandate for operational capacity by the end of 2015.
