  • Army Corps completes construction of the Long Beach Coastal Storm Risk Reduction Project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, announced the completion of construction on the Long Beach Coastal Storm Risk Reduction Project. Completion of this project means storm risk reduction measures are now complete in advance of the upcoming Hurricane Season.
  • Ohio River Basin Workshop

    Nearly 70 flood risk professionals from across the region attended the Ohio River Basin, Flood Risk Management (FRM) Workshop on April 10-11th in Northern Kentucky. The event, which was championed by Kentucky and Ohio Silver Jackets teams and planned by the Huntington District, brought together local, state and federal stakeholders to discuss and prioritize flooding hazards on a basin level.
  • Corps awards Gasparilla Island shore protection contract

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces a contract award that will reduce risks to landside infrastructure on Gasparilla Island in Lee County. The Corps anticipates it will take about two months to complete the project, which is scheduled to start in late May.
  • Honolulu District hands new parking garage keys to Schofield Barracks' U.S. Army Health Clinic

    Honolulu District senior engineers joined U.S. Army Health Clinic Schofield Barracks and U.S. Army Garrison-Hawaii officials, and Schofield Barracks Soldiers and their families, for the ribbon cutting ceremonies and grand opening for the U.S. Army Health Clinic Schofield Barracks’ new 181,000 sq. ft. parking garage. Tom Crump, military branch chief provided remarks and participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
  • Loop Lake Shelbyville Bike Ride

    For Immediate Release: 24 April 2019 Release No.: 19-17 Loop Lake Shelbyville Bike Ride Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of Lake Shelbyville are hosting the 6th Annual Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride on Saturday, June 8, 2019. All rides will start from the Lake Shelbyville Visitor and will include options for a 22 mile, 47 mile or a 65 mile ride. Proceeds for the ride will benefit the Friends of Lake Shelbyville (FOLS). The FOLS provides education, historical interpretation, recreational and environmental improvements at Lake Shelbyville. Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride starts at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center. Rest stops will be provided every 10-13 miles for riders with water and snacks available. The 22 mile ride will take riders to Findlay and back to the Visitor Center. The 47 mile and 65 mile routes will loop Lake Shelbyville, ferry across the lake and head back to the Visitor Center. Registration and check-in at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 8:30 a.m. Riders may start riding after they have registered or checked in. Participants should plan their route to be back at the Visitor Center no later than 3:00 pm. Requirements: Riders must be over the age of 14 years. If under the age of 18, riders must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All riders will be required to wear a helmet for the duration of the ride and obey all applicable Illinois State rules of the road. If registered by May 24th participants will receive a t-shirt!   • 19-038 Seasonal runoff forecasted to increase river flows; Corps ready to assist communities

    SNAKE RIVER BASIN, Idaho/Ore./Wash. – Warming spring temperatures and recent rainfall in Idaho, and parts of eastern Washington and Oregon, are melting snowpack throughout the Snake River Basin. Corps reservoir managers are monitoring rivers and tributaries within the basin watershed, noting increasing flows from seasonal runoff. Some rivers in the basin are already at, or forecasted to soon reach, bankfull or flood-stage conditions, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Weather Service River Forecast Center which can be found online at www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/rfc. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District activated its Emergency Operations Center at Level-3 yesterday afternoon, April 22, to more closely monitor seasonal flooding conditions throughout the Basin, according to District Readiness Division Disaster Response Manager Jeff Stidham.
