LOS ANGELES — New recruits, family, friends and ceremonial dignitaries celebrated the grand opening of the L.A. Central Career Center near downtown's Nokia L.A. Live Theatre and the Staples Center, March 28, 2012.

More than 50 future Soldiers, Airmen and Marines recited the Oath of Enlistment as participants looked on.

"This is our military future, these are the guys who are going to carry the banner to continue to make sure that our nation and our borders continue to remain safe," said Brig. Gen. Henry Huntley. "I want say thank you for what you're getting ready to do on behalf of this nation."

The 50,000 square-foot facility, which includes an Army (pinnacle) station, will be shared with the Air Force and the Marines.

According to La Shawn Richardson, realty specialist for the Corps, the pinnacle design accommodates a one-stop shop for the Army.

"They consolidate all their substations into one big station so that they can just process you here, instead of going from station to station to process into the military," said Richardson.

The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers provides significant contributions to the armed forces, starting with facilities like this recruiting center, to barracks and housing for service members and families, and VA facilities that treat our nation's wounded warriors.

The Los Angeles District currently manages 269 recruiting station leases throughout Southern California, Arizona and Nevada, costing more than $31 million. In total the leases account for approximately 640,000 square feet of space.
