Corps, Quail Forever work together to restore wildlife habitat
While the primary mission of Wappapello Lake is as a flood-control reservoir, wildlife and land management also fall under the responsibility of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and recently, it has partnered with the Black River chapter of Quail Forever to improve wildlife habitat in the Asher Creek area.

Alaska District breathes new life into 1940’s-era headquarters building
In 1979, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District added 37,800 square feet of dark brown, steel siding and trim to its headquarters and laboratory buildings located on what is now known as Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. Since then, the organization has grown to more than 400 employees and implemented projects across Alaska and the Indo-Pacific Region. But, during nearly half of the district’s history, the exterior of the facility stayed the same color, weathering storms and harsh Alaskan winters each year.

ERDC researchers receive national Women of Color Awards
From studying how fish can protect Soldiers to supporting tactical military planning, four researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) have been honored with Women of Color (WOC) STEM awards — an annual, national-level recognition of significant contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

USACE Commanding General signs Rio Guayanilla Flood Risk Management Study Chief Report
Yesterday, Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, USACE Commanding General and 54th U.S. Army Chief of Engineers, signed the Rio Guayanilla Flood Risk Management Study Chief's Report. This key step in the USACE study process approves the findings of the Chicago District and starts the process of Congressional consideration to authorize the project for future construction.

Corps submits St. George report to Congress for authorization
Today, Lt. Gen. Todd T. Semonite, commanding general of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and 54th U.S. Army Chief of Engineers, signed the St. George Harbor Improvement Chief’s Report during a special event in Washington, D.C. The signing progresses the proposed project to Congress for authorization.
