  • USACE Galveston District to perform emergency dredging of GIWW at Caney Creek, Brazos River Floodgates

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 17, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, will perform emergency maintenance dredging of the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) at Caney Creek and the Brazos River Floodgates in Brazoria and Matagorda counties, Texas, beginning July 21, 2015.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or USACE, and the city of Virginia Beach announced the initiation of the Lynnhaven Inlet Jetties Study July 2 via joint website public notices.

  • Corps urges boaters to use caution on Okeechobee Waterway

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District is urging boaters on Lake Okeechobee to use caution as a result of falling water levels impacting navigation routes. The Corps issued a Notice to Navigation yesterday (June 15), advising commercial and recreational vessels to use extreme caution while traveling Okeechobee Waterway Route 2 between Port Mayaca and Clewiston. Officials are also asking boaters to use caution in the waterway between Clewiston and Moore Haven as temporary dams associated with rehabilitation work on the Herbert Hoover Dike have created a narrow channel at multiple locations.

  • Corps of Engineers hosting Lock and Dam 1 open house during Highland Fest

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is hosting an open house at Lock and Dam 1, located near Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis, Saturday, July 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The lock and dam, often referred to as the Ford Dam, is located at 5000 West River Parkway, Minneapolis. It is also adjacent to Minnehaha Park.

  • Corps of Engineers announces Mile Point groundbreaking

    More than 70 local, state and federal officials kicked off construction at Helen Cooper Floyd Park in Jacksonville today, July 7, 2015, during a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mile Point navigation project. The project will help improve navigation on the St. Johns River, increasing commerce efficiencies.

    OLD HICKORY, TENN., (July 7, 2015) – Old Hickory Lock is closing July 14 to Aug. 4, 2015 to all public access, including navigational traffic, for dewatering and maintenance.

  • Missouri River Basin runoff remains above normal due to widespread rainfall

    Runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa for the month of June was 6.8 million acre feet (MAF), 125 percent of normal. The 2015 runoff forecast is 26.6 MAF, 105 percent of normal. Average annual runoff is 25.2 MAF. June precipitation was above normal across much of the Missouri River Basin, most notably in the western Dakotas, eastern Montana and eastern Wyoming. Heavy rain also fell in eastern Nebraska, northeastern Kansas and much of Missouri.

  • USACE Galveston District awards $6.9 million contract to dredge Brownsville Ship Channel, Port Isabel Channel

    GALVESTON, Texas (July 2, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District awarded a contract in the amount of $6,956,000 to RLB Contracting Inc., for maintenance dredging of the Brownsville Ship Channel and Turning Basin and Port Isabel Channel and Turning Basin in Cameron County, Texas.

  • NR 15-018: Cheatham Lock accessible to visitors seven days a week

    ASHLAND CITY, Tenn. (May 28, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering public access to Cheatham Navigation Lock. The lock is open to visitors seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from now until Sept. 8, 2015.

  • NR 15-017: Corps offers public tours of Old Hickory Dam, Lock, Power Plant

    OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (May 22, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is offering the public free guided tours of the Old Hickory Lock and Power Plant. Approximately one and a half hours in length, the tours are scheduled for June 20 and Aug. 8 with a tour start time of 11 a.m.
