    GRAND RIVERS, Ky. (Jan. 26, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District invites the media to visit the Kentucky Lock Addition Project 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015 to see the first completed massive concrete monolith, which crews topped off this past week. This is a significant milestone in the construction of the new navigation lock, and an unveiling is planned to commemorate the occasion.

  • Corps increases releases due to cold temperatures; normal runoff forecast for 2015

    The U.S Army Corps of Engineers Missouri River Water Management Office increased releases from Gavins Point Dam from 17,000 to 20,000 cubic feet per second in late December and early January to offset water lost to ice formation in response to forecasts of cold temperatures.

  • Hours of operations to be reduced at Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam and Lock and Dam 1

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, announced today the hours of operation will be reduced a to single, 10-hour shift, seven days a week, at Lower St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam and Lock Dam 1 following the closure of Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock and Dam. These three locks are all located in Minneapolis.

  • Coral relocation completed at Miami Harbor

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Jacksonville District, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), and the Port of Miami have completed additional relocation of coral colonies as part of a major project to deepen Miami Harbor.

  • Draft Environmental Assessment available for closure of Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock to Navigational Traffic

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, is closing the Upper St. Anthony Falls Lock in Minneapolis to all navigation. The action is mandated as a result of the Water Resources Reform and Development Act of 2014 with the requirement that the lock be closed on or before June 10, 2015.

  • Tussock removal

    A half-acre tussock was blown by the wind, and completely blocked the navigation channel of Rim Canal Route 2 of the Okeechobee Waterway, on the south side of Lake Okeechobee. The Okeechobee Waterway is a navigable waterway that cuts across the state, from the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway to the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway. The tug boat Leitner, with Capt. Graham Thompson at the helm, pushed a barge-mounted crane with a crew of three into position. The team successfully broke up and removed the tussock, restoring navigation on the Okeechobee Waterway.

  • USACE Galveston District awards contract options for Matagorda Ship Channel dredging

    GALVESTON, Texas (Dec. 11, 2014) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, awarded three contract options in the amount of $4.3 million to Orion Marine Construction Inc. for dredging of additional reaches of the Matagorda Ship Channel in Matagorda and Calhoun counties, Texas.
