  • USACE Galveston District awards $8.3 million small business contract for Houston Ship Channel dredging

    GALVESTON, Texas (April 1, 2015) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Galveston District, awarded a small business contract in the amount of $8,343,200 to CJW Construction Inc., to conduct maintenance dredging at the Houston Ship Channel between Sims Bayou and the Turning Basin in Harris County, Texas.

  • Army Corps of Engineers announces park closure

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the closure of Helen Cooper Floyd Park during the construction of the Mile Point Navigation Project. Located near Mayport, the park will contain construction activity and also be used as an equipment staging area throughout project operations. The closure is effective Apr. 1 through construction completion in the winter of 2016.

  • Corps to change hours on Okeechobee Waterway locks

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District will change the operating hours at the five locks on the Okeechobee Waterway at the beginning of April. The new operating hours at each of the five locks are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week, with last lock through starting at 4:30 p.m.

  • First tow marks unofficial opening to navigation season

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The 2015 Mississippi River navigation season has arrived. The Motor Vessel New Dawn locked through Lock and Dam 2, near Hastings, Minnesota, at 7:45 a.m. this morning. She was pushing nine loaded barges en route to St. Paul, Minnesota.

  • Port Everglades reports out for public, agency review

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District announces the release of the Port Everglades Feasibility Study and Final Environmental Impact Statement for public, state and agency review and comments. The study and report will be available for review and comment during a 30-day period that starts Friday, Mar. 20.

  • Fort Pierce recovery starts 24-hour operations

    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials say the recovery team will start 24-hour operations to remove the sunken barge in the Force Pierce inlet.

  • Employees overcome winter storms to keep river projects operating

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 12, 2015) – Snow and ice blanketed the Cumberland and Tennessee River basins twice over the past month, which severely hampered travel in rural areas. Despite winter’s effect on transportation, it did not prevent a handful of very dedicated Corps of Engineers employees from going above and beyond to keep hydropower plants operating and navigation locks open for the movement of commerce.

  • Fort Pierce recovery and salvage operation update

    Recovery and salvage operations continue in Fort Pierce today as a result of a barge that sank in the inlet Feb. 24. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District officials say operations will likely last through the rest of the week to remove the wreck and its debris field, which are limiting navigation in the Federal channel.

  • Lock and Dam 5A to reopen by March 23

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, will reopen Lock and Dam 5A, near Fountain City, Wisconsin, no later than March 23. The facility was originally scheduled to reopen today, March 9, but thick ice conditions indicate that navigation will not begin on the Upper Mississippi River until later than originally anticipated. Work crews are set to complete scheduled maintenance within the new timeframe.

  • Corps invites public to Missouri River operations meetings

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Missouri River Basin Water Management Division will hold five public meetings in early April to update stakeholders on current hydrologic conditions and the planned operation of the Mainstem Reservoir System.
