• Army Corps of Engineers promotes boat, water safety this summer

    DETROIT- With warm weather approaching, many will spend summer in or around the water. As Great Lakes stewards, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds visitors and residents the importance of practicing safe, sensible and thoughtful activities. Great Lakes water levels are below last year’s record levels but will continue rising before peaking in the summer months. High water levels can increase dangers such as rip currents and waves, especially during periods of active weather. The Corps of Engineers urges caution around Great Lakes piers and breakwaters, particularly during times of high winds and waves. People of all ages should always practice boat and water safety. Before entering or being around the water, keep these items listed below in mind, they could save your life or the life of someone you care about.

(May 14, 2021) – Zona Ash, office administrator at the Old Hickory Resource Manager’s Office in Hendersonville, Tennessee, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District Employee of the Month for March 2021. She is recognized primarily for her efforts to reduce obsolete materials and reorganize the file room.
  • Using a “Big Data” approach to find threats, fight terror

    Whether at home or abroad, the main goal of any commander is to keep Soldiers safe. With that in mind, researchers at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) have been using large amounts of historical data, social media activity and news articles to identify the best indicators of when and where a terrorist attack may take place. This “Big Data” approach uses massive amounts of available information, along with high-end parallel computing, to find important clues that aid in the fight against rogue activities.

    USAG HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Far East District (FED) hosted a visit for 40 Soldiers assigned to the 11th Engineer Battalion, May 13, to educate them on the impact FED has in the Indo-Pacific, and to strengthen the partnership by exploring opportunities that are mutually beneficial.

    BRANSON, Mo. – One lane of the Highway 165 bridge across Table Rock Dam will close from 2 a.m. until noon May 14 to conduct road maintenance.

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 13, 2021) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District announces the immediate closure of Laguardo Day Use Beach at Old Hickory Lake in Lebanon, Tennessee, due to E.coli detected in the water. High water levels and geese are suspected to be the cause.

    Jaime Pinkham, Acting, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, and Major General William (Butch) H. Graham, Deputy Commanding General for Civil and Emergency Operations, made a visit to the USACE Huntington District in order to take informative tours of Bluestone Dam, Marmet Locks and Dam and the Marietta Repair Station.
