• Mississippi River Commission schedules high-water inspection trip

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its annual high-water inspection trip on the Mississippi River, April 4 – April 8, 2022.
  • Construction for Van Voorhis on track for 2024 completion

    The Van Voorhis Elementary School project site on Fort Knox, which is being managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District, is busy with crews operating heavy equipment to construct the new 104,000 square foot school that will replace the current 84,000 square foot facility. The $59.8 million construction contract, which began December 2021, had a sporadic start with inclement weather causing 23 days of delays.

    Starbuck, Wash. – Officials at Little Goose Lock and Dam are closing dam crossings to the public from Monday April 4 to Friday April 8, in order to perform electrical work on top of the dam.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Awards Contract to Dredge Ashtabula Harbor and Help Create New Wetland Ecosystem

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District awarded a $737,000 contract to Toledo, Ohio-based Geo. Gradel Company on March 2 to conduct dredging of the federal navigation channel in Ashtabula Harbor. Material dredged from the harbor will be placed in USACE’s beneficial use project in Ashtabula’s outer harbor, leading to the creation of seven acres of new wetland habitat for plant and animal life in Lake Erie.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Motor Vessel W. Red Harris is breaking its way through the ice of Lake Pepin today to become the first boat to kick off the unofficial start of the 2022 navigation season on the Upper Mississippi River. The W. Red Harris has passed the Motor Vessel Aubrey B. Harwell.

  • Missouri River navigation support actions by the Kansas City District

    The Kansas City District received significant funds to make repairs to river training structures on the Missouri River damaged over the years culminating in the floods of 2019. The funds will allow USACE to repair structures of the Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project, known in short as the BSNP, that provide for the self-scouring ability of the Missouri River as well as structures that stabilize the channel of the Missouri River.
