    Major General William Crane, WV National Guard, visit Bluestone Dam on March 16 to tour the dam and visit with the project staff. The WV National Guard assisted in helping USACE Command Sergeant Major Patrickson Toussaint travel to multiple projects during the CSM's short visit to the Huntington District.

  • Temporary Closure of Robert Allen

    Mark Twain Lake, March 18, 2022 – The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers announces that the Robert Allen Recreation Area will be closed to public use beginning March 21, 2022 through April 4, 2022. The area will be closed for approximately two weeks to accommodate public safety.  The area will be undergoing roadway repairs related to erosion sustained from fluctuating lake levels.
  • Frank Russell Campgrounds Upgrades for the 2022 Camping Season

    Mark Twain Lake, March 18, 2022 – The Frank Russell Campground will be undergoing 56 full-service campsite upgrades. Campsites 1-60 within the Frank Russell Recreation Area will be closed for the 2022 camping season and will undergo water and sewer upgrades. The Equestrian campsites 61-67, Frank Russell Pond, Joanna Trail access, and Frank Russell Archery Park will remain open. Access into the Joanna, Clear View, and Flint Ridge loops will not be permitted as this will be an active construction site.

    AHSAHKA, Idaho –Dworshak Dam is currently discharging 10,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) to meet end of month flood control targets. Discharges will remain steady through the rest of the week before slowly decreasing over the weekend, reaching around 4,600 cfs by Monday.
  • Soo Locks to open March 25 for 2022 shipping season

    SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, Soo Area Office will open the Poe Lock, 12:01 a.m., March 25, marking the 2022 Great Lakes shipping season start. The operating season is fixed by federal regulation and driven in part by the feasibility of vessels operating in typical Great Lakes ice conditions. The Poe Lock officially closed January 16 to undergo critical repairs and maintenance during the 10 week-long winter shutdown. Maintenance crews performed a variety of critical tasks on the Poe Lock, including hydraulic steel structure inspections, miter gate bottom girder structural repair and seal replacement, miter gate pintle concrete repairs, valve machinery repairs, and dewatering system maintenance.
