    VICKSBURG, Miss. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Vicksburg District will extend the closure of Steele Bayou Control Structure in Vicksburg, Mississippi, for approximately two more weeks. Rising stages on the Mississippi River have created conditions that require the Steele Bayou Control Structure’s gates to be closed. The structure, which was built in 1969, combined with the Mississippi River and Yazoo Backwater levees, prevents the Yazoo and Mississippi rivers from backing up and further flooding the Delta.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District awarded a $3.6 million construction contract March 2 to the Inverness, California, firm Dixon Marine Services, to conduct wetland mitigation on Alameda Point, California.

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, J. Strom Thurmond Project, recently launched a free fishing application for public use called “J. Strom Thurmond Fishing Map.” The web-based application is designed to assist boat and bank anglers in digital planning, ground referencing features, and areas of interest.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville Small Business Industry Day held a virtual information and networking event. The “Back-2-Business, from Incorporation to Negotiations” themed event provided an opportunity for participants to attend small business workshops, learn about USACE programs and small business opportunities, meet with other federal agencies, and network.     RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Russellville Site Office is advising landowners adjacent to public lands around Lake Dardanelle and Ozark Lake that contract maintenance crews will be conducting boundary line maintenance along a 36.5-mile section of government boundary at Lake Dardanelle and a 14.5-mile section at Ozark Lake.
