    Army Corps Railhead Improvements to Facilitate Deployments at Fort Drum

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District, will soon begin work on a $27 million project to modernize and expand railway-loading facilities for the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum in northern New York. Last fall, a contract was awarded to Structural Associates, Inc., of East Syracuse, New York.

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be collecting used, real Christmas trees for the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Project. The Corps of Engineers, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, uses these trees to provide effective and economical fish habitat at Carlyle Lake.

    St. Louis District begins construction on Mississippi River habitat restoration project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District recently awarded a 7.2-million-dollar contract to Luhr Brothers, Inc. of Columbia, Ill., to construct a Mississippi River habitat restoration project, located in Pool 26, between Upper Mississippi River Miles 207.5 – 211.5 near Grafton, Ill., in Madison and Jersey counties.

    Louisville District constructing one-of-a-kind multi-use helicopter training facility at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is building a $5 million Multi-use Helicopter Training facility to replace the current Special Helicopter Operations Complex training facility at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. This one-of-a-kind facility consists of a deck landing trainer designed to replicate a Destroyer Designated Guided DDG-103 class ship, nicknamed the “U.S.S. Truxton” and will include an attached six-story structure. The landing pad will incorporate the same lighting with a similar aircraft storage configuration as on board the DDG ship.
