• Hartwell, Russell, Thurmond Lakes no longer in drought operations

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, announces Hartwell, Richard B. Russell and J. Strom Thurmond Lakes are no longer in drought operations due to the recent rain events over the Savannah River System Basin.

  • Weather to cause temporary closures at Saylorville Lake

    Due to forecasted weather conditions, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island District, will temporarily close the road that crosses over Saylorville Lake Dam starting at 3 p.m. today. The road will be closed at NW 78th Ave. near the Iowa National Guard Armory to the Saylorville Lake Visitor Center entrance. All Saylorville Lake recreation areas have also been closed to ensure the safety of staff and visitors. The road will reopen when conditions improve, and staff are able to safely clear the roadway.   • Contract awarded for levee work for the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain project

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, recently awarded a contract for constructing the first levee reach on the West Shore Lake Pontchartrain (WSLP) Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction project. This contract will construct approximately one mile of the 17.5-mile-long levee system that will provide 100-year level risk reduction to the area extending from the Bonnet Carre’ spillway to Garyville.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, recently named Mark Koenig of St. Paul, Minnesota, as its 2022 hall of fame inductee.
  • Chittenden Locks schedules Large Lock closures, Small Lock available

    Army Corps will begin large lock center gate repairs in 2023. Large lock will close to all vessel traffic during specified periods. Extended closures will facilitate demolition, concrete construction, and installation and commissioning of the new miter gates. Small locks will be available.
  • Public meeting scheduled for Watertown Flood Risk Management Feasibility Study

    OMAHA, Neb. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District in cooperation with the city of Watertown, South Dakota, will hold a public meeting on Tues., Jan. 31, 2023, at 1901 Ninth Ave. SW in Watertown. The purpose of the meeting is to share information on the recently initiated flood risk management feasibility study. The study location includes the Big Sioux River and its tributaries within the vicinity of the Watertown community.
  • Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center transitions to holiday, winter schedule

    DULUTH, Minn., – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is transitioning the operating hours of the Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center in Canal Park to its holiday and winter schedule. The Detroit District’s Lake Superior Maritime Visitor Center winter schedule will begin the week of Jan. 16, 2023, and will be open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Carlyle Lake Christmas Tree Recycling Project

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be collecting used, real Christmas trees for the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Project. The Corps of Engineers, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, uses these trees to provide effective and economical fish habitat at Carlyle Lake.
  • Construction scheduled now through January 31 at Canyon Lake Overlook areas

    Fort Worth District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Officials at Canyon Lake announced today the temporary closure of Overlook parking which began on November 7 is now scheduled through January 31.
