    Vicksburg, Miss…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District celebrated its ninth annual Founder’s Day today in observance of the District’s 140th year of service to our Nation. The day began with a continental breakfast for retirees. The breakfast was immediately followed by the Founder’s Day ceremony where District Commander, Col. John W. Cross, made opening remarks by stating, “Welcome to all of you, especially to our retirees. You are all directly responsible for the current, impressive reputation this District has throughout the community and throughout the Corps. Thank you for all you have done in the past. The contributions of our employees continue to be outstanding.”

Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Vicksburg District’s Mat Sinking Unit (MSU) is scheduled to begin laying articulated concrete mats on the banks of the Mississippi River on August 26. The vessels of the MSU will depart the Vicksburg Harbor, Friday, 23 August 2013, and assemble around noon below the I-20 bridge before proceeding to their first worksite.
