  • Army Corps awards $25.3 million contract for Belmar to Manasquan post-Sandy emergency beach replenishment

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New York District awarded a $25.3 million contract to Dutra Dredging Company of San Rafael, Calif. to place approximately 1.5 million cubic yards of sand to restore New Jersey beaches from Belmar to Manasquan as part of an emergency shore protection project which repairs and restores previously constructed beach erosion control and storm damage reduction projects throughout the region affected by Hurricane Sandy.

  • Tool streamlines Corps’ power mission response during disasters

    The Emergency Power Facility Assessment Tool, or EPFAT, is designed to store important information regarding the emergency power needs of critical facilities, including hospitals and emergency response organizations. The Los Angeles District is encouraging the thousands of organizations eligible for emergency temporary power support to enroll in EPFAT, which greatly minimizes emergency response time in the event of a disaster.

A portrait of each individual hangs in the Gallery of Distinguished Civilian Employees, located on the 5th floor of the Memphis District headquarters, to honor these role models who’ve made significant contributions to the Corps of Engineers.

  • A life well-lived ... Remembering Thomas George

    Thomas George packed a lot of life into his brief 56 years with us. The former Memphis District employee passed away April 5 doing one of the many things he loved – being close to the river. Thomas was Master of the Corps’ Dredge Potter based in the St. Louis District. He died in his sleep aboard the dredge which was at Ensley Engineer Yard in Memphis for maintenance work.

  • Missouri River emergent sandbar habitat restoration (North Dakota) final assessment available for download

    The final Environmental Assessment/Finding of No Significant Impact for the restoration of emergent sandbar habitat complexes in the Missouri River (North Dakota) has been approved and is available for download. The final EA determined that there are no significant impacts associated with removing and preventing vegetation on emergent sandbar habitat located within the Garrison River reach and upper Lake Oahe of the Missouri River between river mile 1381.0 and 1278.0.
