• Gathright Dam ‘pulse release’ to increase Jackson River water flow

    The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will conduct a pulse release at Gathright Dam, near Covington, Va., on Tuesday, Aug. 13, beginning at approximately 6 a.m.
  • Corps to Co-Sponsor Ouachita River Water Sweep

    Vicksburg, Mississippi…..The Vicksburg District’s Louisiana Field Office (LFO) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Keep Monroe Beautiful, Keep West Monroe Beautiful, and Keep Ouachita Parish Beautiful organizations will sponsor the 2013 annual Ouachita River Water Sweep. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, 21 September, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at locations in Monroe, West Monroe, and Sterlington.
  • CORPS ISSUES SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY FOR ARKANSAS RIVER

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Army Corps of Engineers has issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River in Arkansas because recent heavy rains in Kansas and Oklahoma have caused flows to rise. Another round of heavy rains are expected in the Tulsa area tonight which will cause the flows to continue to rise. During the high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure crafts.
  • Public review begins for Middle Decatur Bend shallow water habitat project

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment for the restoration of shallow water habitat at Middle Decatur Bend in Burt County, Neb., is currently available for public review. The draft supplemental EA evaluates the environmental impacts of restoring the connection between Middle Decatur’s backwater lake and the Missouri River.
  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Carlyle Lake Project offers an abundance of recreation opportunities for lake visitors. Dam West, Coles Creek, and Boulder Campgrounds are open with sites available on a first-come-first-serve basis and through reservation by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov. McNair and Dam East Campgrounds are open on a first-come-first-serve basis. The Eldon Hazlet State Park is also open and has sites available first-come, first-serve or online at www.reserveamerica.com

    CARLYLE LAKE - On Friday, August 9, 2013, the 17th Annual Car Show & Cruz-In will be held at the Mariner’s Village Resort at Carlyle Lake. More than 250 classic cars from central and southern Illinois are expected to participate in the event.
  • Keyesport Recreation Area Temporarily Closed for Triathlon

    CARLYLE LAKE - RaceMaker Productions will be hosting a triathlon in the Keyesport Recreation Area at Carlyle Lake on Sunday, August 11, 2013. The triathlon will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will consist of a timed swim, run and bike course. The swim portion will take place at Keyesport beach and the bike course will start at the Keyesport Recreation Area and will travel South on Clinton and Bond County roads. The route of the run course will take participants across the Keyesport levee South on Clinton and Bond County roads. While visiting Carlyle Lake during the triathlon, visitors are encouraged to take extra caution while driving in the areas of the triathlon course.
  • Poker Paddle on the Illinois River

    Alton, Ill. – The Mississippi River Water Trail Association will be hosting a poker paddle fund raiser on September 7th, 2013! Attendees will float and paddle from Pere Marquette Boat Ramp down to Grafton, IL. They will take out and tally their hands at the Grafton Public Boat Ramp. Winners will receive 25% of the proceeds of the registration fees. This is a fun alcohol free event for avid paddlers. Voyageur style canoes will be onhand for paddlers that have never paddled this stretch of the river before. This is your opportunity to learn about the river with experienced guides. Safety boaters from the St. Louis Canoe and Kayak Club plus search and rescue volunteers will be available to assist and give paddling instruction.

    POMEROY, Wash. – Vehicles crossing the Snake River at Lower Granite Lock and Dam may encounter delays of up to 2 hours Aug. 12-16 to accommodate maintenance activities on top of the dam, according to operations officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Walla Walla District.
