    Corps of Engineers announces Mile Point groundbreaking

    More than 70 local, state and federal officials kicked off construction at Helen Cooper Floyd Park in Jacksonville today, July 7, 2015, during a groundbreaking ceremony for the Mile Point navigation project.     Draft supplemental EA for Deroin Bend chute repairs available for review

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment for repairs to Deroin Bend chute in Holt County, Missouri between Missouri River miles 519 to 517 is currently available for public review. The draft supplemental EA evaluates the environmental impacts of repairing damage to the chute that occurred during the 2011 Missouri River flood. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than August 3, 2015.

    Missouri River Basin runoff remains above normal due to widespread rainfall

    Runoff in the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City, Iowa for the month of June was 6.8 million acre feet (MAF), 125 percent of normal. The 2015 runoff forecast is 26.6 MAF, 105 percent of normal. Average annual runoff is 25.2 MAF. June precipitation was above normal across much of the Missouri River Basin, most notably in the western Dakotas, eastern Montana and eastern Wyoming. Heavy rain also fell in eastern Nebraska, northeastern Kansas and much of Missouri.

    Carlyle Lake Update and Weekend Activities; July 6

    As of 12:00 p.m. on Monday July 6, 2015, the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 454.34 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD), with a release rate of approximately 5,000 cubic feet of water per second (cfs). The inflow for Sunday July 5, 2015 was approximately 5,600 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation, the lake crested at 454.40 feet NGVD on July 5, 2014. The targeted summer pool is 445.0 feet NGVD. Carlyle Lake is currently working as designed to lessen flooding on downstream sections of the Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.
