  • Corps of Engineers constructs projects to manage stormwater at two Hyattsville elementary schools

    The Baltimore District, in coordination with Prince George’s County, Department of the Environment (DoE), is constructing a project to manage stormwater at both Ridgecrest Elementary and César Chávez Dual Spanish Immersion schools, starting June 27, 2016, for about a 30-day construction period. The project includes the conversion of two non-functioning bio-retention ponds to submerged gravel wetland sites at both schools, with one additional gravel wetland site at César Chávez.

  • USACE announces new national water safety campaign

    MOBILE, Ala. – The summer recreation season has begun and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mobile District, urges its recreating public to be safe. “Memorial Day through Labor Day is the peak recreation season at our lakes and rivers project,” said Public Affairs Officer E. Patrick Robbins, Mobile District. USACE recently announced a new national adult water safety campaign. The campaign, titled “Life Jackets Worn…Nobody Mourns,” is targeted toward adult males.

    A group of 25 disabled veterans, family members, friends and caregivers boarded the M/V John A. B. Dillard, Jr., May 25 for a tour of such Bay Area landmarks as the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz and concluding at AT&T Park for a Giants-Padres baseball game. The veterans are residents at the Veterans Community Services Living and Resource Rehabilitaion Center in Martinez, Calif.
