    Corps issues small craft advisory for Arkansas River

    LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Army Corps of Engineers issued a small craft advisory for the Arkansas River. High flows are the result of relatively large releases from Oklahoma reservoirs and about six inches of rain in the Oklahoma basin. During high flows, strong currents and large debris can threaten the safety of pleasure craft.

    North Landing Bridge to Close to Vehicle Traffic for 4 Days

    The North Landing Bridge will close to vehicle traffic from 9 a.m. Oct. 11 to 4 p.m. Oct. 14 to fully repair the damage sustained during two barge strikes earlier this year.

    Honolulu District awards $220.4 million in Fiscal Year 2016 contracts in Hawaii, Pacific region

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Honolulu District recently completed a very successful Fiscal Year 2016 (FY16) during which 520 contract actions were awarded totaling $220,443,332, including $127.2 million for small business.

    Corps transitions to recovery; reduces flows from Lake Okeechobee

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District has begun more comprehensive damage assessment of its projects and facilities in Florida impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The Corps has also reduced flows from Lake Okeechobee to the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie Estuaries.

    Corps completes initial dike inspection; resumes locking operations

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District found no areas of concern during initial, post-Hurricane Matthew inspections of Herbert Hoover Dike around Lake Okeechobee in South Florida. Operations have also resumed at the five navigation locks on the Okeechobee Waterway.

    16-075 Corps of Engineers hosts multi-agency oil spill response exercise at Ice Harbor Dam

    BURBANK, Wash. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Ice Harbor Lock and Dam hosted a multi-agency, environmental response drill on Thursday, Oct. 6. In the tabletop exercise, the Corps’ Walla Walla District worked with other agencies to respond to a simulated railroad oil spill just upstream of the dam. The Corps improves its response to spills by participating in ongoing multi-agency exercises and communication. This exercise followed a Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology) Geographical Response Plan (GRP) update. Ecology recently revised the plan for the Ice Harbor area. The Corps’ mission during a spill is to protect the environment including downstream communities, parks, marinas and fish passage facilities.
