• U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to host Public Scoping Meeting on proposed Pascagoula River Drought Resiliency Project (1701-001)

    MOBILE, Ala. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mobile District (USACE) is scheduled to host a Public Scoping Meeting Jan. 24, 2017 on the George County Board of Supervisors and the Pat Harrison Waterway District (Applicants) proposed Pascagoula River Drought Resiliency Project.

    The Training Dike Boat Ramp, on the north side of the Missouri River just below Gavins Point Dam near Yankton, SD, will be closed effective immediately until further notice for repair and maintenance.
  • Reservoir system prepared for 2017 runoff season; Missouri Basin runoff near average for 2016

    The full flood control capacity of the Missouri River mainstem reservoir system is available for the 2017 runoff season, according to the U.S Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) Missouri River Water Management Division. All 2016 stored flood water was evacuated from the reservoir system as of December 18, when the total volume stored in the Mainstem Reservoir System reached 56.1 million acre-feet (MAF). “Due to the complete evacuation of the reservoir system, Gavins Point releases were reduced from 18,000 cubic feet per second (cfs) to the normal winter rate of 17,000 cfs on January 5. Basin conditions will continue to be monitored and reservoir releases adjusted as needed throughout the winter in preparation for the 2017 runoff season”, said Jody Farhat, Chief of the Missouri River Water Management Division. “The entire flood control capacity of the Mainstem Reservoir System stands ready to capture spring runoff, reducing flood risk while providing support to other authorized project purposes.”
  • District Names Chief of Design Branch’s Levee and Drainage Section

    VICKSBURG, MISS…The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Vicksburg District recently selected Colby Bankston as chief of its design branch’s levee and drainage section of Engineering and Construction Division. In this position, Bankston will oversee a talented group of engineers and technicians who are responsible for the production of construction plans and specifications for levee and channel projects throughout the District.
  • Arkabutla Lake Hosts Youth Waterfowl Hunt

    Vicksburg, Miss…Arkabutla Lake of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks will host a youth waterfowl hunt on January 28 and February 4, 2017 in a management area near Arkabutla Lake Dam. The Youth Waterfowl Hunt will provide an opportunity for experienced waterfowl hunters to teach the younger hunters proper techniques and ethics of the sport.

  • 17-003 Closure of bridge access to Little Goose Dam’s fishing wall, day-use area extended

    STARBUCK, Wash. – Due to navigation lock construction, access to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Little Goose Lock and Dam’s tailrace fishing wall and day-use area will remain temporarily closed until further notice. The Corps previously announced a temporary closure through Jan. 7. The bascule bridge crossing the downstream navigation lock approach is expected to be inaccessible at least through Tuesday, Jan. 10, to accommodate critical lock gate work.

    ST. PAUL, Minn. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, plans to reduce outflows from the Lac Qui Parle Dam, near Watson, Minnesota, early next week.
