NR 18-030: Public reminded of drone policies at Corps, TVA projects

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 6, 2018) — The public is reminded of the policies of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District and Tennessee Valley Authority that govern the operation and use of recreational unmanned aerial systems (UAS or drones) . The Corps of Engineers operates and maintains navigation locks at TVA dams where the TVA drone policy applies.

LOWER SNAKE RIVER, Wash. – If your upcoming Veterans Day weekend plans include a road trip to visit family and friends on the opposite side of the lower Snake River, you may want to keep in mind that most U.S. Army Corps of Engineers dams are closed to cross-dam public vehicle traffic on federal holidays, unless otherwise announced. The legal public holiday for Veterans Day 2017 – Nov. 11 – falls on a Sunday. For most federal offices, Monday, Nov. 12, will be treated as a holiday.

Continued reservoir releases in preparation for 2019 runoff season; Public meetings set for this week

Higher-than-average releases from all Missouri River Mainstem System projects, including Gavins Point, will continue through November. To ensure all stored 2018 runoff is evacuated prior to the 2019 runoff season, most of the releases must occur before the river ices over in reaches predominantly upstream from Lake Oahe. The 2018 runoff forecast looks to be the third highest since record-keeping began in 1898. Runoff in the unregulated reach from Gavins Point Dam to Sioux City was 1.7 million acre feet for September and October, which is the highest in 120 years of record-keeping
