• Corps of Engineers to release water from Rathbun Lake [UPDATED]

    As downstream conditions permit, the Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin flood water releases from Rathbun Lake in Iowa. Releases WERE expected to start around 8 a.m. on Friday morning with a release of 1,500 cubic feet per second BUT now will be delayed for about three days until the Chariton River falls.

  • Gavins Point releases will step up to 75,000 cfs this weekend

    Releases from Gavins Point Dam will increase by 5,000 cubic feet per second Saturday, June 1 to 75,000 cfs. Releases were increased to 70,000 cfs on Wednesday. “Runoff into the upper Missouri River above Sioux City has remained high, and unfortunately, the rain continues to fall in the places we don’t need it,” said John Remus, Chief of the Missouri River Basin Water Management Division.
  • Pending operation of the Morganza Floodway

    NEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will initiate the process of gradually opening the Morganza Floodway on June 2, 2019 to prevent overtopping of the control structure. The slow-opening process will take three days during which time USACE will limit accumulation in the floodway to one foot per day. The corps anticipates that a diverted flow of 150,000 cubic feet per second by June 5 will be required to keep the river below the structure’s elevation of 60 feet.

    Starting tomorrow (May 30) the Left Tailrace Boat Ramp and the Spillway Dike Boat Ramp at Big Bend Project will be closed.
  • NR 19-032: Closure of Bell Road scheduled at J. Percy Priest Dam

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 29, 2019) – Bell Road is closing at J. Percy Priest Dam from 7 a.m. Monday to 4 p.m. Thursday (day and night) the weeks of June 3-6 and July 15-18. The road is also closing 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily June 10-13, June 17-20, June 24-27, and July 8-11 while the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District performs a five-year inspection of the spillway gates, chains, machinery and performs routine maintenance. The roadway will be open on weekends over the duration of the work. The roadway remains open Monday through Thursday, July 1-4, for Independence Day celebrations.
