    Corps of Engineers awards $2.8 million contract for breach repairs on levee L575 in southwestern Iowa

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, awarded a $2,767,413 contract Wednesday to build up the elevation on previously closed breach L575a near Percival Iowa, and on breach 575b near Hamburg, Iowa expected to be closed in the next few days.

    Draft Supplemental Environmental Assessment for operation and maintenance repairs at Council Bend available for public review

    A draft supplemental environmental assessment to evaluate the impacts of stabilizing the Council Bend chute in Pottawattamie County, Iowa is currently available for public review. This supplemental EA specifically evaluates activities required to maintain the ecological function of the chute without adversely impacting the Missouri River authorized purposes including flood risk management. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than Aug. 9, 2019.

    Draft Environmental Assessment for Sioux Falls, South Dakota drainage improvement project available for comment

    A draft environmental assessment for a proposal to improve an existing concrete weir structure located within the city of Sioux Falls near the Big Sioux River levee is currently available for public review. The draft EA evaluates the environmental impacts of modifying the shape of the weir to include widening the base to allow for improved flow through the existing oxbow wetland, improve interior drainage, and reduce flooding of nearby buildings. Comments must be postmarked or received no later than Aug. 9, 2019.

    Corps of Engineers to study Augusta’s ‘training wall’ in Savannah River

    SAVANNAH, Ga. – An underwater wall installed in the Savannah River in Augusta, Georgia, more than a century ago will be the subject of a just-funded study by the Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District. The so-called “training wall” in the Savannah River runs from just downstream of 8th Street and ends 1,800 feet downstream of Boathouse Community Center. It aided commercial shipping in the 20th century by keeping the navigation channel deep for the port in Augusta on the Georgia side of the river.

    USACE Buffalo District begins temporary measures to secure Little Sodus west pier

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is excited to announce that work began on July 9th, 2019, two months ahead of schedule, to conduct temporary measures to secure the damaged west pier in Little Sodus Harbor, located in Fair Haven in Cayuga County, New York. Site work is expected to be complete in late July to early August 2019.

    19-082 Dworshak discharge flows to increase to 12,500 cfs tomorrow; flows help cool rising river temperatures to improve conditions for migrating fish

    AHSAHKA, Idaho – Continued rising temperatures forecasted for the coming week https://www.weather.gov have prompted changes in flow operations at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Dworshak Dam and Reservoir near Orofino, Idaho. Water previously discharging at 9,500 cubic feet per second (cfs) from Dworshak Dam began increasing this afternoon toward target flows of 12,500 cfs, according to U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) water-management officials. Downstream of the dam, water elevation will likely result in Clearwater River surface elevation increasing by about 9 inches at the at USGS gage located at Peck, Idaho.
