    STEM Outreach

    Sarah Bailey, a science teacher at Buffalo Middle School in Wayne County, WV, received a STEM grant through the state of West Virginia this past year. The grant consisted of a project wind turbine project to help her students understand engineering design and construction. To assist and mentor her students she reached out to the USACE Huntington District for volunteers. Multiple engineers from various disciplines answered the call and have been mentoring via email exchange with groups of kids that were put into Science Inquiry Teams (SITs). The teams have sent their design summary for review and engineering staff preformed a review and responded with constructive comments.

    HIGHWAY 165/265 BRIDGE ACROSS TABLE ROCK DAM TO TEMPORARILY CLOSE

    BRANSON, Mo. – The Corps of Engineers will close both lanes of Highway 165/265 across Table Rock Dam from 8 p.m. Nov. 7 until 6 a.m. Nov. 8; 8 p.m. Nov. 16 until 6 a.m. Nov. 17 and 8 p.m. Nov. 17 until 6 a.m. Nov. 18 to install equipment needed to refurbish the dam’s gates.

    Corps hosts cleanup event at Santa Ana River Marsh for third consecutive year

    For the third consecutive year, more than 20 volunteers traveled to the Santa Ana River Marsh Sept. 21 to participate in California’s Coastal Cleanup Day. The 92-acre marsh lies at the outlet of the Santa Ana River to the Pacific Ocean in Newport Beach and is owned and maintained by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District.
