GSL researcher wins 2016 Women of Color Technology All-Star Award
Dr. Ghada S. Ellithy, a senior research civil engineer in the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory of the U.S. Engineer and Research Development Center has been awarded the prestigious 2016 Women of Color Magazine Technology All-Star Award. The award recognizes accomplished women of color with mid-level to advanced-level careers in the workforce. Award winners have demonstrated excellence in the workplace and in their communities.

ERDC demonstrates new equipment, approach
Developing efficient and effective protection systems for the seven species of sea turtles, which have existed since the time of the dinosaurs, continues as an ERDC research priority. With a streamlined shell design for swimming, these turtles differ from their land cousins, having no ability to retract heads and legs into their shells.

West Virginia boy gets Space Camp opportunity
When retired Lt. Col. Russ Dunford’s family asked him what he hoped to find under the Christmas tree last year, Dunford knew that his grandmother’s old adage had finally come true – “At some point in your life you make the mental transition that it’s better to give than receive.” Dunford wanted to give the gift of opportunity to a young man or woman growing up in southern West Virginia, where Dunford was born and raised. He wanted to send them to Space Camp.
