Hubbell named Nashville District Employee of the Month for September 2019
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 12, 2019) – Matthew Hubbell, maintenance mechanic at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Cordell Hull Lake Resource Manager’s Office, is the employee of the month for September 2019.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers prepare for October 1 closures of USACE-operated campgrounds and day-use parks
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is preparing for the closure of USACE-operated campgrounds and day-use parks nationwide beginning Tuesday, October 1, if the potential shutdown of the federal government for lack of fiscal 2014 funding legislation goes into effect.

The Jan. 7 Los Angeles County wildfires debris removal operation was one of our largest, most challenging missions. More than 1,400 USACE personnel deployed from across the nation and from our district to support debris removal operations. /6

But we did not do this alone. The success of this important mission was the result of strong partnerships with FEMA, Cal OES, LA County, local governments and impacted communities. /5

To date, USACE has removed more than 2.6 million tons of debris — the equivalent of more than 218,000 truckloads. /4

We are proud of our efforts, alongside our partners, to rapidly come to the aid of our fellow citizens in their time of need. In just six months, more than 9,500 properties were cleared — making this the fastest, large-scale wildfire debris removal in USACE history. /3

After the devastating Los Angeles wildfires in January 2025, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was laser-focused on removing immediate hazards to public health and safety, and supporting economic recovery by removing structural ash, debris and foundations. /2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (May 14, 2020) – As part of a phased approach for reopening facilities as part of its COVID-19 reopening plan, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is opening its corps-managed campgrounds within the Cumberland River Basin in Tennessee June 1, 2020.

Corps of Engineers announce phased reopening of campgrounds
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District is planning a phased reopening of campsites and recreation areas closed due to COVID-19, to begin immediately. The decision to reopen each recreation area is based largely on the safety of the staff and visitors. Each lake is going through a conditions-based assessment to verify all staff can return to work safely and will have the proper personal protection equipment available. In addition, they are confirming the availability of contractors and staff who help operate and maintain the recreation areas and implementing operational changes to address COVID-19 concerns in campgrounds.
