    District Commander Col. Rhett A. Blackmon and Deputy District Engineer Byron Williams recognized nearly 100 “Champions of the Texas Coast” during the Fiscal Year 2023 Second Quarter Awards Ceremony, held March 2, 2023, at the Jadwin Building and virtually via WebEx.
  • USACE attends Navigator’s Meeting hosted by Coalition to Protect the Missouri River

    The Coalition to Protect the Missouri River (CPMR) held its annual Navigator’s Meeting in Jefferson City, Missouri, on Feb. 23, 2023. The Kansas City District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was in attendance and several district employees presented during the meeting. The purpose of the annual Navigator’s Meeting is for local, state and federal partners to determine common goals for the upcoming navigation season, starting on April 1, 2023. The CPMR works to keep the Missouri River fully functional through education and advocacy around the state and the country. CMPR works closely with state and federal partners, to include USACE.

  • Kansas City District announces 2022 Ranger of the Year Award

    Ask a park ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers what they like most about their job and you will likely get a response about being outdoors in nature and the freedom of not being stuck behind a desk every day. One of the more unique positions within USACE Kansas City District, park rangers, or Natural Resource Specialists as they are officially known, are responsible for developing wildlife conservation activities, managing environmental programs and supporting recreation through public safety, much of which is done in the great outdoors.

    Chicago District was proud to host Mr. Durrett on his final visit to LRC. After almost 40 years of service to the Corps Mr. Durrett toured the district to receive briefings and visit T.J. O’Brien Lock and Dam as well as speak with district leadership of all levels.
  • Defense Health Agency to Japan: "We Hear You!"

    It’s no secret that Department of Defense civilians working in Japan are having a difficult time navigating healthcare options in Japan. This is due to restrictions placed on the usage of military-operated hospitals and clinics whose administration and management has recently fallen to the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The agency received a mandate from Congress in 2017 instructing them to prioritize treatment for active-duty service members, their families, and others covered by the military health plan TRICARE Prime, a service only available to Servicemembers on active duty, their immediate family, or as a benefit for someone who is retired from the military.

    On behalf of the Secretary of the Army, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded the Distinguished Civilian Service Award to Karen Baker, former North Atlantic Division regional programs director and member of the Senior Executive Service.
  • Adaptive in the face of adversity: Matthew Scholten, Human Resource Assistant

    He’s the first person to greet you when you walk into the Civilian Personnel Advisory Center office, but there’s more than meets the eye with Matthew Scholten. While Scholten’s current title is Human Resources Assistant with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, he is also a retired Army staff sergeant and an adaptive athlete for the Kansas City Chiefs wheelchair football team. His time within the Army shaped how he would live the rest of his life and led to him finding his love for wheelchair football.
