    Due to increased river elevations, the crest gate dam at Montgomery Point Lock and Dam (NM 0.5) is lowered and the navigation pass is open. When the Montgomery Point Lock and Dam tailwater elevation drops below 115 ft., the navigation pass will be closed.

  • Columbia River environmental review begins, agencies seek input

    Two federal agencies are seeking public input on changed circumstances and new information regarding Columbia River System operations to inform preparation of a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement (SEIS). The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), who are the co-lead agencies for the SEIS, issued a notice of intent in the Federal Register, today, which announced the effort and the need for public input over the next 90 days.

  • Chickamauga Lock replacement project reaches milestone with delivery of miter gates

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, in partnership with Shimmick Construction and the Tennessee Valley Authority, is advancing the Chickamauga Lock replacement project with the delivery of 14 miter gate components from Dec. 5-23. These gates, designed to improve efficiency and reliability, mark a critical milestone in the construction of the new 110-foot by 600-foot navigation lock. Once completed, the new lock will significantly enhance capacity, accommodating up to nine jumbo barges at a time, boosting efficiency by 80% for commercial vessels on the Tennessee River.

    USACE begins dredging the Everett Harbor and Snohomish River federal navigational channels the week of Dec. 16, 2024. The 24/7 dredging operations, expected to be completed by Feb 14, 2025, will make it safer for local boaters to navigate.

  • Gavins Point Dam releases reduced to winter release rate

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began reducing the Gavins Point releases to the winter release rate on Nov. 23 with the navigation flow support season ending on Dec. 1 at St. Louis. “Releases from Gavins Point Dam are being reduced to the 12,000 cubic feet per second winter release rate by mid-December,” said John Remus, Chief of the Missouri River Water Management Division. “We will closely monitor river conditions, and releases will be adjusted to the extent practical to lessen the impacts of river ice formation on stages in the lower river.” Releases were at 32,000 cfs prior to the reductions.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, saw the last barge of the year, the Motor Vessel Ashley Danielson, depart Lock and Dam 2, Dec. 1, at 11:48 a.m., ending the 2024 navigation season on the Upper Mississippi River.
